Stiff Steering and Vibration in Mini Clubman

I'm experiencing a rather concerning issue with my 2011 Mini Clubman diesel. The steering has become incredibly stiff, almost as if the power steering has given up. Furthermore, there's a noticeable vibration through the steering wheel. My initial diagnosis points towards a defective steering angle sensor, possibly coding gone awry. Could sensor failure be the culprit here

Whoa, sounds familiar I had a similar issue with my Mini Clubman. The steering felt heavy, especially at low speeds. I also noticed some vibrations. Did you check if it's related to the steering sensor I remember reading something about that when I was troubleshooting mine. Was traction control also affected

Interesting. So, when you say 'similar issue,' was it also a faulty steering angle sensor Did you have any alignment problems beforehand And do you remember if there were any specific error codes

Yes, it was the steering angle sensor causing all the trouble. I didn't dive too deep into error codes myself. I took it to a workshop. They mentioned something about the alignment going off because of the faulty sensor. It might be best to get it checked professionally before it causes further issues.

An update I took the Clubman to the workshop. Apparently, the coding of the steering angle sensor was indeed faulty, causing alignment problems and traction control issues. They recoded it, and the steering is now smooth as butter. Total cost 195€. Thanks for the insight; it helped me direct the mechanics effectively.
