Cheers for the insight helps to know I'm not the only one who's been through this. It sounds like a similar issue to what's happening with my Sonata - bugger. Just out of curiosity, would you happen to remember how much you forked out for this fix on your Elantra? And has anything else popped up since the repair?
Hey again! Yeah, it was almost identical with my Elantra. To calm your nerves about the cost, I remember it wasn't too harsh on the wallet – the repair set me back just about 155.00€. That was mostly spent on getting that damn defective cable leading to the sensor sorted. And you'll be glad to hear this - since my mechanic sorted the connection to the sensor, it's been smooth sailing (I mean, driving!). The communication with the steering angle sensor issue was totally sorted and I haven't seen that pesky airbag light flashing or had any more ABS/DSC system meltdowns. So hang in there it's definitely worth getting it fixed!
Thanks heaps for sharing your experience, it's really put me at ease. 155€ is well worth it to fix this bloody issue. I just hope I find a mechanic as good as yours. Keeping my fingers crossed that it's just the cable and my Sonata's back on track after the repair, just like your Elantra. Cheers again!
Hey! I completely get where you're coming from. I own a 2010 Hyundai Elantra and I had pretty much the same issue a while back. My airbag light was going all disco on me and my ABS/DSC system was more off than on. Turned out that it was indeed a problem with the cable connection to the sensor, just as you suspect with your Sonata. Don't panic though, it's quite fixable. Over at my garage, the lads dug into the car's electronics and found a few loose connections and a faulty cable. They replaced the defective parts and reconnected everything properly. Post repair, my Elantra has been running as smooth as ever, no ABS/DSC problems or flickering airbag lights. So, it's definitely a problem that needs addressing, but not a car-breaking one. Find a decent mechanic and they should be able to sort it out for you in a jiffy. Good luck!
