Start-Stop System Issues and Error Warnings, need Advice Having trouble with my 2015 Chevy Cruze Diesel (104k km). The car's idle stop feature keeps failing, and the engine out of nowhere shuts off when stopped. Getting warning lights on the dash, and the diagnostic shows some stored errors. Had a not-so-great experience with my last mechanic, so looking to hear from others who've dealt with similar start-stop system problems. Did you get it fixed? What was the actual issue? Any suggestions for what to check first? Worth mentioning it's been happening more frequently in the past week. The automatic restart sometimes takes multiple attempts too. Let me know your thoughts, especially interested in hearing from other Cruze owners who've faced this.

Had similar issues with my 2018 Chevy Malibu Diesel. The automatic restart problems turned out to be a seriously degraded battery. The start-stop system requires a robust battery to handle frequent engine start cycles. My symptoms matched yours, multiple restart attempts, unusual shutdowns at stops, and warning lights. The battery tested at 40% capacity when checked. These start-stop systems need specialized AGM batteries rated for frequent cycling. The fix involved: New AGM battery installation, System reset to clear stored codes, Battery management system recalibration After the battery replacement, the start-stop feature worked flawlessly again. The eco mode and all other functions returned to normal. The original battery lasted about 4 years before causing these hybrid vehicle-like symptoms. Would recommend getting your battery load tested first. The automatic start-stop failures are typically battery-related in these models. If the battery tests okay, then look at the starter motor and charging system.

Thanks for sharing those details about the battery fix. My Cruze had nearly identical problems, the engine stalling and finicky automatic restart were driving me crazy. Got it sorted with a new battery too, though mine also needed a software update for the idle stop system. Quick question, do you remember roughly what you paid for the full repair? And has everything stayed working properly since the fix? The prices I've seen vary quite a bit, so I'm curious what others have paid. Plus, I want to make sure the fix actually sticks long-term before spending the money. My car's still giving me grief, especially with the eco mode acting up, so I'm trying to decide if I should just get it all done at once while it's in the shop.

Since getting the battery issue fixed at the shop last month, my start-stop system has been working perfectly, no more stalling or restart problems. Ended up paying 290 for the complete fix, which included the new AGM battery and system recalibration. The car battery they installed is specifically designed for vehicles with start-stop systems, and it's made a huge difference. Haven't had a single engine stalling incident since then. The eco mode is back to normal too, actually saving some fuel now instead of causing headaches. If your start-stop system is acting similar to how mine was, definitely worth getting it sorted all at once. These specialized batteries aren't cheap, but they're crucial for proper system operation. The starter motor takes a beating when the battery isn't up to spec, so fixing it sooner rather than later probably saves money in the long run. The whole repair was worth every penny since the car now starts reliably and the automatic stop-start works exactly as designed.

Just got back from getting my Cruze fixed at the shop. What a relief! After hearing about battery issues from here, I had them check mine first. Sure enough, dead battery was the culprit. They installed a new AGM battery, did the system reset, and updated some software. Total cost came to around 350 Euro, bit more than I wanted to spend, but worth it. The automatic restart works perfectly now, no more unusual engine stalling at stops. Even the eco mode is functioning like it should. Actually ran into another Cruze owner at the shop with the same problem. The mechanic said these start-stop systems really need specific batteries, and the original ones typically last 4-5 years before causing issues. For anyone else dealing with similar symptoms, definitely get your battery tested. Saved me from replacing a bunch of other parts unnecessarily. The starter motor and everything else checked out fine once they solved the battery problem. Going to keep an eye on things, but so far the fix seems solid. No more warning lights or restart problems since leaving the shop yesterday.
