SQ8 Airbag Warning Light: Common Sensor Issues Fixed

Airbag warning light

My 2020 SQ8 suddenly shows an SRS light on the dash. The airbag warning lamp started appearing without any prior issues or accidents. Already checked the battery connections but that wasnt the fix. Looking for someone who had a similar airbag sensor issue with their SQ8 and can share what the actual problem was. Did you need a complete airbag repair or was it just a faulty crash sensor? Want to have an idea before taking it to the shop. Would really appreciate if you could share your experience and repair costs.

Let me share my experience with a similar vehicle safety issue. I had a comparable problem with my 2018 S7, which uses a very similar restraint system setup. The SRS light came on suddenly during regular driving. Having some experience working on cars, I initially checked the obvious things like battery connections and visible wiring, but that didnt resolve it. Took it to my regular workshop where they diagnosed the issue using their diagnostic equipment. Turned out it was just a loose cable connection to one of the airbag sensors under the passenger seat. The fix was straightforward, they cleaned and properly reseated the connection. Total cost was 95 Euro for diagnostic and repair work. The good news was it wasnt related to the actual airbag components, just a connection issue. These SRS light problems can range from simple connector issues to more serious airbag recall related concerns. To better assist with your specific case, could you share: Have you had any recent work done near the seats or center console? Did the light come on gradually or suddenly? Are there any error codes you can share from a diagnostic scan? Does the light stay on constantly or flicker? This information would help determine if youre dealing with a similar connection issue or something else in the restraint system.

Thanks for sharing those details about your S7 experience. In my case with the SQ8 (116222 KM, last serviced 3 months ago), the SRS light appeared completely suddenly during normal driving. No recent work was done around the seats or console area. The light stays constantly on, and I havent done a diagnostic scan yet. Your connector issue scenario gives me some hope this might be relatively simple. Car safety is obviously crucial, so I want to address any airbag sensor problems quickly, but its good to know it might not require extensive airbag repair work. From what I understand, these systems are pretty similar across the performance models. Would you recommend having the connections checked first before looking into more complex airbag deployment system issues?

Thanks for those additional details about your SQ8. Since our vehicles share similar automotive safety components, I can add some more insight based on what I learned from my experience. Given the light appeared suddenly without any recent work being done, it does sound remarkably similar to my connector issue. In my case, the constant illumination of the SRS light also pointed toward a connection problem rather than an intermittent sensor fault. The airbag repair in my situation was straightforward because the diagnostic scan pinpointed the exact connector location. Without a proper scan, the shop would have spent more time searching for the fault in the airbag system. Strongly recommend getting a diagnostic scan first. This will save time and potentially money by identifying whether its a simple connector issue like mine or something more complex in the deployment system. Most shops can do this basic scan for a minimal fee. Based on your mileage and service history, its possible that normal vibration over time has caused a connection to work loose. These automotive safety systems have multiple connection points that can occasionally need attention. Have you noticed any other warning indicators or unusual behavior from other electronic systems in the car?

After hearing about your S7 case and getting the extra details, I think Ill have a diagnostic scan done first thing tomorrow. The similarities between our situations, sudden SRS light with no prior work or accidents, make me more optimistic this could be a straightforward fix. No other warning lights or electronic issues in my SQ8, which I guess is another good sign pointing toward an isolated airbag sensor problem rather than something more systemic. Plus the car has been perfectly maintained with regular service intervals. Think Ill skip trying any DIY investigation given the serious nature of vehicle safety systems. Will have it properly scanned and hopefully its just a connection issue like yours. The 95 Euro you mentioned for diagnostic and repair sounds much better than what I was fearing for a complete airbag repair. Ill update once I know more about what caused the SRS light. Really helpful to hear about a similar case, gives me a good baseline for what to expect at the shop.
