SQ8 ABS Warning: Faulty Lateral Sensor Diagnosis

ABS warning light

ABS/DSC system is not working

Fault stored

My SQ8 from 2022 (18k km, gasoline) has been acting up with ABS issues lately. The ABS warning light stays on and the system is not working properly. A diagnostic scan revealed it might be related to a lateral sensor malfunction. Has anyone experienced similar problems with their Audi? Looking for recommendations on trusted shops that know how to handle these electronic control systems properly, as my last mechanic experience wasnt great. Any input on repair costs or the complexity of fixing this would be appreciated.

Had a similar issue with my 2019 Audi S7. The ABS warning came on, accompanied by vehicle stability and traction control warnings. A diagnostic scan pointed to a faulty steering angle sensor, which was affecting multiple control systems. The repair required recalibrating the complete ABS control unit and replacing the lateral acceleration sensor. This is a complex electronic repair that needs specialized equipment. The steering angle calibration must be done precisely to ensure proper vehicle stability control function. This type of issue is serious as it affects core safety systems. Poor ABS function can lead to loss of control during emergency braking. The repair should be handled by technicians with experience in Audi electronic systems who can perform proper wheel alignment verification after the work. After fixing the sensor and recalibrating the system, all warning lights cleared and the ABS, stability control, and traction control systems returned to normal operation. Total repair time was about 6 hours including comprehensive testing. For electronic control unit issues like this, going to a shop with Audi-specific diagnostic tools is essential. They need the right equipment to properly interface with the vehicle systems.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the S7 sensor issue. I faced almost the exact same problem with my SQ8 last month. After the repair and ECU recalibration everything is working fine now. The electronic stability system needed a complete reset after they replaced the lateral sensor. Did you remember roughly what you paid for the full repair? Also curious if any other issues came up since getting it fixed? My wheel alignment seems slightly off now and Im wondering if I should get that checked too.

Good to hear you got the SQ8 fixed. When I had the lateral acceleration sensor fault repaired on my S7, the total came to 1000 Euro for the affected control unit replacement and recalibration work. The wheel alignment issue you mentioned is worth checking, after my repair, the shop did a complete alignment check as part of their quality control process. The traction control and stability systems have worked flawlessly since the fix six months ago. No warning lights or sensor faults have returned. Having the steering angle properly calibrated during the repair was crucial for the entire system to work correctly. If youre noticing alignment issues, definitely get it checked soon. Even slight misalignment can affect tire wear and handling. A proper wheel alignment is essential for the safety warning systems to function optimally.

Thanks for the input. I took my SQ8 back to the shop yesterday and explained the wheel alignment concern. They confirmed it needed adjustment after the sensor work. The diagnostic scan showed everything was properly calibrated now, but the alignment was indeed off by a small margin. The total cost for the alignment service was 150 Euro, which included a full vehicle stability check. The steering feels much more precise now and the car tracks straight without pulling. Really glad I followed up on this, as the traction control and other safety systems need proper alignment to work correctly. All in, between the initial sensor repair and this alignment, I spent around 1200 Euro. Not cheap, but worth it for having all safety systems working properly again. No warning lights since the fix, and the car handles like new.
