Thanks for sharing your experience with the RS6 ignition issues. My situation with the SQ7 sounds very similar, especially the multiple start attempts and dashboard flickering. The mechanic replaced my ignition coil but didnt thoroughly inspect the control module or fuse connections. Would you mind sharing what the total repair cost was for your fix? Also curious if youve had any recurring problems since the ignition control module was replaced. Wondering if I should expect any other related issues to pop up even after getting it fixed.

After getting the ignition control module and fuse box properly checked by my mechanic, the starting issues were completely resolved. The car ignition works perfectly now with no more problems when turning the key. The engine start is smooth every time, which was such a relief. The total cost for my repair came to 52 Euro for the faulty fuse replacement, plus the diagnostic work. This was much cheaper than replacing the entire ignition switch, which they initially thought might be needed. The key turn action is now consistent and I have not experienced any recurring starting issues in the years since. Getting the fuse connections properly cleaned and checked made all the difference. My mechanic noticed significant corrosion that was causing the erratic engine start behavior. No dashboard flickering or rough running since the fix. Worth having your mechanic thoroughly inspect these components rather than just focusing on the ignition coil.

Finally took my SQ7 to the mechanic today based on the advice here. The entire starting issue turned out to be exactly what was described, corroded fuse connections affecting the ignition control module. The mechanic did a thorough check of all car electronics and found significant corrosion around the main fuse box. Total repair cost was 180 Euro including diagnostics, cleaning, and replacing a few damaged components. No ignition switch replacement was needed after all. The car starts perfectly now with just one key turn. No more dashboard flickering or rough running. Really glad I asked here before authorizing more expensive repairs. Will definitely keep an eye on those fuse connections during future maintenance to prevent similar starting issues from developing again.

As an RS6 owner with similar symptoms back in 2019, I understand these starting issues well. The symptoms closely match what happens with a deteriorating ignition switch, but in my case, it turned out to be a faulty ignition control module combined with corroded fuse connections. The engine start problems began similarly, rough running, unexpected shutdowns, and inconsistent response when turning the ignition key. Initially, it seemed like a minor issue, but diagnostics revealed significant corrosion had developed around the main fuse box, affecting multiple car electronics systems. The repair involved replacing the complete ignition control module and cleaning the entire fuse box assembly. This was classified as a serious electrical system fault since it could potentially leave you stranded or cause sudden engine shutdown while driving. Key signs to check: Flickering dashboard lights when using the car ignition, Multiple attempts needed for engine start, Rough idling immediately after starting, Car electronics behaving erratically I suggest having your mechanic specifically check the ignition control module and fuse box connections before replacing the ignition switch. These components often cause similar symptoms but are frequently overlooked during initial diagnostics.
