SQ7 SRS Warning Light Issue Needs Urgent Attention

Airbag warning light

Having trouble with my 2020 Audi SQ7. The SRS light suddenly came on in the instrument cluster and stays illuminated while driving. This suggests a problem with the vehicle safety system, specifically the airbags or restraint system. The car runs fine otherwise, but I am concerned about airbag deployment reliability. Has anyone dealt with a similar issue on their SQ7? Would like to know what the actual problem was and how much the repair cost. Also curious if this is something that requires immediate attention or if it can wait a few days until my next scheduled service.

Having some experience with Audi vehicles, I encountered a similar airbag sensor issue on my 2018 Audi SQ5. The SRS warning light also came on unexpectedly, causing concerns about car safety and proper airbag functionality. After inspection, it turned out to be a faulty cable connection to the airbag sensor module. The repair involved testing the connection points and replacing the damaged wiring harness. The total cost was 95 Euro for parts and labor. Given that this involves the airbag system, I would strongly recommend not waiting until your next service. Any airbag-related warning lights should be addressed immediately, as they indicate potential issues with airbag deployment in case of an accident. Before suggesting more specific solutions, could you share: Have you checked if your vehicle is subject to any airbag recall notices? Did you notice the light coming on after any specific event (like hitting a bump or after car maintenance)? Are there any other warning lights or unusual behaviors? Have you recently had any work done near the front seats or center console? This information would help identify if your issue matches what I experienced or if it might be something different.

Thanks for the input. My vehicle has 131976 KM and was last serviced 3 months ago. I actually checked the airbag recall database and found no active recalls for my model. The SRS light appeared out of nowhere while driving on a normal road, with no specific triggering event. No other warning lights are present, and I have not had any recent work done on the seats or console. I will contact the service center today to have the airbag sensor system checked, as I understand this is a critical vehicle safety component that should not be ignored. Just hoping it is a simple wiring issue like yours and not a complete airbag system replacement.

Thanks for providing those details. Since you mention no recent work or triggering events, this does strengthen my initial suspicion of a wiring connectivity issue, similar to what I experienced with my SQ5. The symptoms are nearly identical, unusual illumination without other warning indicators. In my case, the airbag repair technician found that the wire harness under the driver seat had slight wear from normal use, causing intermittent connection issues with the airbag sensor. Your higher mileage (compared to when I had my issue) makes this scenario even more likely. One additional note from my experience: when they diagnosed my vehicle, they found multiple connection points needed cleaning and reseating, even though only one was actually damaged. The total diagnostic and repair time was about 2 hours. The good news is that if it is indeed a similar wiring issue, your repair costs should be comparable to what I paid (around 95 Euro), unless prices have increased significantly since then. However, the restraint system diagnostic might reveal other issues, so it is best to be prepared for various scenarios. Let us know what the service center finds. This information could help other SQ7 owners who might face similar airbag sensor issues in the future.

I want to thank everyone for their detailed responses and insights about the SRS warning light situation. I took my SQ7 to the service center today, and they diagnosed the problem. Just as suggested, it turned out to be a wiring harness issue affecting the airbag sensor connection under the passenger seat. The total repair came to 120 Euro, slightly more than expected but still reasonable for a critical vehicle safety component. The airbag repair took about 2.5 hours, during which they also performed a full restraint system diagnostic check. They found and cleaned several other connection points as a preventive measure. The SRS light is now off, and I have documentation confirming the airbag system is functioning correctly. For anyone facing similar issues with their SQ7, my advice would be to get it checked immediately. The peace of mind knowing your airbag sensor system is working properly is worth the cost and time. Really glad I did not wait for my next scheduled service to address this.
