Thanks for sharing your experience with the steering column issue. My fault with the SQ7 was almost identical and your post brought back some memories. The electric steering failure was really concerning, especially given how new the car was. Just wondering, do you remember roughly what the repair ended up costing you? And has the steering adjustment been working properly since the fix? I had mine repaired about 6 months ago but keep getting paranoid about potential issues coming back. The column adjustment seems fine now but Im a bit wary since these electronic steering components can be quite temperamental.

Since getting the repair done on my S6, the electronic steering column adjustment has worked flawlessly. The issue was indeed just a faulty cable connection that was causing the steering failure. The fix was relatively straightforward once properly diagnosed and cost 95 Euro for the repair work. The mechanical fault turned out to be less severe than initially feared. The technician found and fixed a loose plug connection in the column adjustment mechanism. These electronic steering components can seem complex, but often the solution is quite simple when handled by someone who knows what to look for. Its been over a year now with no steering issues whatsoever. The column adjustment works perfectly, and I havent seen any warning lights or error codes since. While these systems can be temperamental, once properly repaired they tend to remain reliable. Regular maintenance checks help ensure any potential steering problems are caught early.

Finally got around to getting my SQ7 fixed last week. Took it to a different mechanic this time who actually specializes in electronic steering systems. What a difference in service compared to my previous experience. The mechanic found the exact same steering failure you mentioned, a damaged wiring connection at the base of the steering column. Total cost came to 120 Euro for parts and labor, way less than I expected. The car steering functions are all working perfectly now. They actually showed me the faulty wiring harness and explained how these electronic steering components can fail. Really appreciated their transparency, unlike my previous mechanic who wanted to replace the entire steering column for a much higher price. Quick 2-hour job and no steering issues since then. The column adjustment works smoothly again, and all error codes are gone. Definitely learned my lesson about finding the right specialist for these types of repairs.

Having dealt with a similar steering column issue on my 2019 S6, I can relate to this problem. The electronic steering adjustment failure is actually a known mechanical fault that often stems from a faulty wiring harness connection at the base of the steering column. When my car developed this steering issue, the main symptom was identical, complete column lockup and adjustment failure. The root cause turned out to be a deteriorated cable connection between the steering column control module and the main harness. This mechanical fault typically requires removing the lower dash panels to access the connection points. The repair involves testing the connectivity of each wire in the harness and potentially replacing the entire steering column wiring assembly if corrosion is found. In my case, it was indeed a serious issue requiring specialized diagnostic equipment to properly identify the fault codes and verify the repair. This type of car steering problem isnt uncommon in this model family. The column adjustment mechanism is quite complex with multiple electronic components that can fail. Its worth having this checked at an authorized service center since they have specific tools to diagnose steering column electrical faults accurately. The repair is definitely not a simple DIY job due to the complexity of the electronic steering systems in these models.
