Solutions for defective light switch on Toyota Yaris 2014 - experience and repair tips

Hey guys, I have a strange problem with my 2014 Toyota Yaris with gasoline engine. It looks like the light switch is not working properly. The lights just come on by themselves and won't turn off. Have any of you ever had a similar problem and can give me a tip as to what could be the cause? How did you have it repaired in the workshop and what was your experience? Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi, well, I once had a similar problem with my 2012 Toyota Auris. I'm not a car expert, and my knowledge is rather on the low side. At my garage they found out that the control unit was faulty. The repair cost around 1000 euros, but was no longer a problem afterwards. In order to be able to help you more precisely, could you please tell me how many kilometers your car has already covered and whether you have already had any repairs in this area? Best regards!

Hi, thank you very much for your reply! My Yaris has already done 158688 kilometers, and the light problem is really the first of its kind that I have had. The last service was very recent, but there was no sign of this problem. Maybe I really need to have the control unit checked... Thanks and best regards!

Hello again, given the mileage, it could well be that the control unit is actually giving up the ghost. Especially if you haven't had similar problems in the past. It's difficult to say, of course, as I can't inspect the car myself. But an investigation into the control unit would certainly be a good idea. That's probably where the garage will look first. If it is indeed the control unit, you will have to be prepared for somewhat higher repair costs, as I know from my own experience. But as I said, the light problem should then be solved. Maybe that's a small consolation. Good luck and let us know what the workshop says! Best regards!

Hey, thanks for the tip! Yes, that makes sense. I think I really will take the car to the garage and have the control unit checked. Sure, the repair costs sound high at first, but if it fixes the problem, it's worth it! I'll keep you posted on how it goes. See you then and best regards!
