Thanks for the quick reply! How did you figure out it was related to the CAN bus? And did you also have the coolant leak, or just the overheating and check engine light?

The diagnostic trouble code pointed to a data link issue. I then suspected a CAN bus problem. Yes, I did also have a minor coolant leak, which I believe was related to the engine working harder due to incorrect data from the control module. Honestly, I'd recommend a workshop with experience in Skoda vehicles. It could be a software glitch, but I wouldn't risk further damage by driving it too much.

Took your suggestion and brought it to a workshop. Turns out a faulty connection was causing the control unit error. They fixed the cable and plug, cleared the diagnostic trouble code, and the overheating issue is gone! Cost me 95€. Thanks for the advice!

I also own a Skoda Yeti, and your symptoms sound very familiar. I experienced a similar overheating problem with the check engine light. The coolant spill is concerning. Have you checked the CAN bus connections related to the engine control module?
