Skoda Yeti diesel with irregular DPF regeneration and potential glow plug damage

DPF regeneration failure

Longer cold start time

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Check engine light on

Pre-glow light won't turn off

Hello everyone! I'm really worried about my Skoda Yeti (diesel, 2013 with around 125k km on the clock). I had a bad experience last time at the mechanic, so I need your help. My DPF is not regenerating properly, it takes ages to start when cold, the preheating light won't go out and black smoke comes out of the exhaust when accelerating. The check engine light is on and I suspect that a glow plug is broken. Have any of you experienced something similar and have any tips on where I should go and what it might cost me? Thank you in advance for your help.

Hey, I can really understand you. I have a 2016 Skoda Superb Diesel and recently had a similar problem. During my last visit to the mechanic for an inspection, it turned out that my particulate filter was clogged and the glow plug was broken, just like yours. That was a serious problem, because the clogged DPF can put a strain on the engine and the glow plugs are essential for cold starting and for the combustion process in the engine. Black smoke is never a good sign and often indicates incomplete combustion, which can be due to both the defective glow plug and the clogged DPF. In my case, they had to replace the particulate filter, replace the glow plugs and the system is now working again. My recommendation: go to a trustworthy workshop that knows Skoda. They should be able to solve your problem. But you should definitely have it checked as soon as possible, otherwise it could lead to even more serious problems. Don't worry, you'll get it sorted! Good luck!

Hey, thanks for your detailed answer! You've eased some of my worries. Your experience sounds very similar to what I'm going through right now. Can you remember what all the fun cost you in total and if anything else has come up since then? Just want to be prepared for what might come up. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with me!

Hey, I'm glad I could help you! In my case, the costs were actually quite manageable. It cost me 120 euros to repair the defective glow plug. The mechanic mumbled something about a "defective ground connection to the glow control unit or poor contact". So you could assume similar costs. Since I've been to the workshop, everything has been running perfectly, no more black smoke, and the pre-glow lamp is also behaving as it should. Hope this helps you! Good luck and keep me posted!

Wow, thanks for the info! I'm reassured that the costs won't go through the roof. And it's great to hear that everything is going well for you again. I'll start looking for a good garage tomorrow and hopefully my problem will be solved soon. I'll let you know as soon as I have any news. Thanks again for your support!
