Thanks for the quick reply! I did check the transfer case oil level, and it seemed fine. However, how did you determine it was low? Did you notice any visible signs of oil wear or degradation? Also, what kind of gear oil did you use to top it up?

Well, the shifting issues were similar, but the underlying cause could be different. I didn't personally check the transfer fluid, a mechanic did. They noted the low level and signs of oil wear. If your level is correct, but the shifting is still rough, gear wear is unfortunately a real possibility. Given that, I would advise taking it to a workshop for a proper inspection to confirm the condition of the gears.

Took it to a trusted mechanic and they confirmed the gear wear in the transfer case. Replacing the gear oil with new transfer fluid didn't solve the slipping. The repair including parts and labor came out to 330€. Appreciate the insights, it helped me prepare for the conversation with the mechanic.

Interesting issue. I had something similar happen with my Superb. The gearbox felt jerky, especially between lower gears. Did you check the transfer fluid level? In my case, it turned out to be low, causing the gears to not engage properly. Could be a simple top-up, but if it's low, you'll want to check for leaks.
