Skoda Superb Diesel Limp Mode and Gearbox Issues

Alright, I'm a bit stumped. My 2001 Skoda Superb diesel is throwing me some curveballs. It's got about 154965 km on the clock, and recently it's gone into limp mode. The gearbox is slipping and shifting really rough. I've read somewhere that ABS problems can mess with the transfer case and the control module. Any ideas where I should start looking? Is it perhaps the torque converter at the end of its life, or something else entirely?

I have experienced similar symptoms on my Skoda Superb. The limp mode activation, combined with the gearbox issues, sounds familiar. Have you checked the ABS control module for any diagnostic trouble codes? In my case, consequential faults stemming from ABS issues were impacting the torque converter and triggering limp mode.

Thanks for the quick reply! When you say ABS issues impacting the torque converter, do you mean the ABS was actually faulty, or just sending the wrong signals due to something else? And did the fault codes specifically mention the torque converter, or was it more of a process of elimination?

Indeed. The ABS wasn't necessarily 'faulty' in the sense of being broken, but it was sending incorrect data, which then cascaded through the system. The fault codes were related to the ABS and wheel speed sensors, not directly mentioning the torque converter. However, the diagnostic process revealed that the incorrect ABS data was interfering with the gearbox control module and causing the torque converter to behave erratically. I would suggest a thorough diagnostic check at a workshop.

Thanks a lot for your help! I got it sorted. Turns out, despite the fault codes pointing all over the place, it was a dodgy earth connection causing all sorts of mayhem. Cleaned it up, and it's running like a dream. And the best part? 0€ repair cost!
