Škoda Superb check engine light is on

Loss of engine power

Unsteady engine

Check engine light on

Jerking on acceleration

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Poor fuel economy

Hello everyone! I've recently noticed some problems with my 2012 Skoda Superb petrol car. Whenever I accelerate, black smoke comes out of the exhaust and the engine light comes on. The engine runs rough, the car jerks when accelerating and I notice a loss of power and increased fuel consumption. I suspect that the lambda sensor heater is defective. Have any of you ever had similar problems and could you give me a few tips on troubleshooting? I would like to know how your garage solved the problem and what experiences you have had. I am grateful for any tips!

Hi, I have limited experience with cars, but I had a similar problem with my 2010 Skoda Octavia. It turned out that the engine control unit was faulty. I had it repaired in a garage. It cost me 1000 euros to replace the unit, but since then the car has been running perfectly again. The symptoms were very similar to yours - uneven engine running, smoke from the exhaust, jerking when accelerating and increased fuel consumption. Could you please give me more information about your Superb, for example, how many kilometers it has driven and whether it has ever had similar problems in the past? Hopefully I have been able to help you a little.

Hey, thanks for your answer! My Superb now has 107654 km on the clock and its last inspection was about 6 months ago. It hasn't had any similar problems so far. So it could be the engine control unit... Thanks for the tip. It's quite expensive but if it helps I'll consider it. Did your garage recognize the problem with your Octavia immediately or did it take you several attempts to find the fault?

Hey, so with my Octavia, the garage only recognized the fault after the second attempt. The first time they did a routine service and found everything to be fine. But when the problems continued, they did a more thorough diagnostic procedure and discovered the faulty engine control unit. Yes, it was expensive, but since then the car has been running great again. As for your Superb, I think a visit to the garage is inevitable. It may be something simpler, but it never hurts to have it checked. Hope this helps and that your Skoda will be running smoothly again soon!

Hello, that's really interesting. Then it seems that such problems are not so easy to recognize. I guess I'll take my Superb to the garage and have them do it. Maybe they also have the appropriate equipment to identify the exact problem without having to make several attempts. It's an expensive business, but I want my car to run smoothly again. Thank you so much for your help and the information shared. It has really helped me out!
