Skoda Roomster multifunction steering wheel issue

My 2011 Skoda Roomster with a gasoline engine has decided to throw a fit. The multifunction steering wheel is completely unresponsive. The malfunction indicator is on, and I pulled the error codes – it says there's a problem with the multifunction steering. My research points to a likely cause: a defective cable connection in the steering wheel. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything I can do before I'm forced to sell a kidney to afford the repair? Any advice on checking the steering column myself?

Hey! I had a similar problem with my Roomster a while back. The malfunction indicator lit up, and the multifunction steering just stopped working. The error was stored in the error memory too. Did you check the control module? Maybe the problem is there?

Thanks for the quick response! When you say you had a similar problem, was it exactly the same symptoms? And how did you figure out it was the control module? Did you use some vehicle diagnostics tool, or did you just check the cable connections in the steering column?

Yes, the symptoms were exactly the same! I didn't figure it out myself. I checked the fuses first, but then I brought it to a workshop. They told me it was a defective cable connection in the steering wheel. I would suggest you do the same. It's probably the best way to solve the problem. It seems it's a common issue.

I took your advice and brought it to a local shop that I trust. They ran vehicle diagnostics and confirmed it was indeed a defective cable connection in the steering wheel, just like you suspected. The repair cost me 95€, which I think is reasonable. Everything is working perfectly now. Thanks again for your help!
