Skoda Praktik Multifunction Steering Wheel Failure

I have a 2008 Skoda Praktik diesel with 205800 km. The multifunction steering wheel stopped working. The error memory shows a fault, but no details. I think it's a bad cable connection in the steering wheel. Has anyone seen this before? Is my cable connection idea right, or could it be something else like the steering column or sensors?

I understand your issue with the multifunction steering wheel on your Skoda Praktik. I had a similar problem on my Peugeot. Was there any sensor issue beforehand? Did the malfunction indicator light up before the failure? Did you use an OBD reader to get the error code? Is the fault intermittent or consistent?

Thanks for your response. The malfunction indicator came on when the steering wheel failed. I scanned it and got an error about the steering wheel control module, but it wasn't specific. On your Peugeot, did the error code give a better idea of the fault, especially with the cable connections in the steering column?

The error code on my Peugeot was vague, pointing to the steering control module. But further checks showed a wiring loom issue in the steering column. Given your symptoms and error code, your cable connection idea is likely correct. The steering column is complex and has airbags, so I suggest consulting a qualified technician to diagnose and fix it correctly to avoid problems.

Colleague, your diagnosis was spot on. The malfunction indicator pointed to a defective cable connection in the steering column. The workshop fixed the electrical fault for 95€. Thanks for your invaluable help.
