Skoda Octavia Gear Shift Problems

I'm officially pulling my hair out! My 2013 Skoda Octavia with a gasoline engine is giving me major grief. The gear shift indicator is completely dead. I can't engage the gears properly, the automatic transmission is shifting all over the place, plus I am hearing grinding noises sometimes. The gear selection display in the speedometer is also not working. I suspect it is a gear selector issue, maybe the control unit. Any ideas?

Sounds frustrating! I had a similar issue with my car's gear indicator a while back. Does the car dashboard show any error messages or warning lights when this happens? And have you tried checking the car's error memory using an OBD2 scanner to see if any fault codes are stored?

Yes, there's an error stored in the error memory. You mentioned a similar issue. Was it also a sensor problem or something else?

Okay, if there's an error code and you're experiencing those symptoms (implausible shifting, slipping gears, grinding noises), it really does point towards a defective control unit within the gear selector. It sounds like it needs professional attention. I would suggest getting it checked by a workshop. I know the repair cost is a pain, I have been there.

You were spot on! Took it to a workshop and they confirmed it's the gear selector unit. Cost me 1000€ to replace, but at least my Skoda is shifting smoothly again. Thanks for the help!
