Skoda Octavia 2019: Jerks, increased fuel consumption and engine problems - crankcase ventilation defective?

Check engine light on

Unsteady engine

Loss of engine power

Shaking while idling

Poor fuel economy

Engine shuts off by itself

Jerking on acceleration

Hello folks! I have a problem with my Skoda Octavia, year 2019, gasoline engine with about 34228km on the odometer. The indicator light is on, the engine stalls by itself, has lost power and is rough. It also jerks when accelerating, has increased fuel consumption and shudders when idling. The last time at the mechanic was not so good, so I'm trying it here first. I suspect that it may be the crankcase ventilation. Has anyone here had similar experiences (including with mechanics) and can give me a few tips? Thanks in advance!

Hi, I once had a similar problem with my 2016 Skoda Superb. The same symptoms - rough engine running, higher fuel consumption and of course that damn light. Imagine it was the ignition coil! The mechanics replaced it and it's been running like a new one ever since. It was definitely not a small problem and it could have been worse, but the professional work of the workshop solved it well. Have a look at the ignition coil on yours. I'm no expert, but it could definitely be what's bothering your Octavia. Good luck!

Hey, wow, that didn't occur to me about the ignition coil. Thanks for the tip! Just when you've gotten used to the jerking and shaking, you're on the wrong track. Can you remember how much it cost you to replace the ignition coil? Has anything else come up since then, or was that the final solution to your problem? Thanks for your help!

Hey, yes, the ignition coil was a pretty big chunk, but since then the car has been like a new one. But you were asking about the crankcase ventilation, right? After I went to the mechanic, they fixed the crankcase ventilation fault. A plastic hose was defective, I tell you. It cost me 315 euros to repair the thing. Since then, no more noises from that direction. I hope that helps you. Good luck with your Skoda, hopefully it's nothing serious!

Hello again! 315 euros sounds a lot, but if it solves the problem, then it's definitely worth it. I will now have the ignition coil and the crankcase ventilation checked and hopefully the mechanics will be able to fix the problem. Your information was worth its weight in gold - thanks for that. I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks again and all the best!
