Skoda Kodiaq Rear Window Heating Problem

My 2021 Skoda Kodiaq with the diesel engine is throwing a fit. The rear window heating has completely stopped working. There's an error stored in the memory, and the windshield heating doesn't seem to be working as well as it used to. I've checked the fuses, and they all look fine. I read somewhere that a heavily discharged or defective battery can cause this, but the car starts, so I'm not convinced. Any ideas on this defroster repair and heating issue?

The error memory storing a fault and the windshield heating malfunctioning alongside the rear window suggest a common electrical issue. A heavily discharged or defective battery can indeed cause such problems. Think of it like a weak heart struggling to pump enough power to all extremities. Have you tested the battery's voltage and cold cranking amps?

Okay, so you reckon it's the battery even though the car starts fine? It cranks a little slow sometimes, but I thought that was just a Kodiaq thing. How can a battery cause only the rear window heating to fail? Seems kinda weird, doesn't it?

While the engine starting might seem to contradict the battery theory, modern vehicles are highly sensitive to voltage fluctuations. A battery with sufficient power to start the engine may still exhibit a voltage drop under load, enough to disable non-essential systems like the rear window demister to conserve power. Given the stored error and the windshield heating issue, proceeding with a battery test at a workshop is advisable. The predicted repair cost of around 290€ aligns with a battery replacement and diagnostic check.

Turns out you were spot on. The workshop confirmed the battery was the culprit, causing the rear window defroster repair and the heating issue. A new battery and a bill for 290€ later, the rear window heating is working perfectly again. Thanks for your help!
