Škoda Kodiaq problems with the EGR valve

Shaking while idling

Engine shuts off by itself

Strong exhaust smell

Check engine light on

Loss of engine power

Unsteady engine

Hi guys, I have a strange problem with my 2019 Skoda Kodiaq diesel. Strangely, the engine just cuts out and loses power while the check engine light is on. Also, the engine runs rough, the car shakes when idling and there is a strong exhaust smell. I think this could be related to the EGR valve. Have any of you had similar problems and how did you solve it in the workshop? I am grateful for any tips!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2017 Skoda Superb Diesel. My EGR valve was also faulty and stuck. I would describe myself as someone with some car experience, but I'm not a master mechanic. I took the car to my regular garage and described the problem to them. After looking at it, they confirmed my suspicions and the EGR valve had to be replaced. The repair cost me 355 euros at the time. Since then, the car has been running smoothly again. It would be helpful if you could provide more information about your vehicle. Then I might be able to help you more specifically. For example, exactly which model you have and whether you have already tried anything to identify or fix the problem. Good luck with that!

Hey, thanks for your answer and help! My Kodiaq now has 154678 km on the clock and was last serviced almost 6 months ago. There were no problems then. So far I haven't done anything to solve the problem as I wanted to get opinions and advice first. It looks like I really will have to go to the garage and have the EGR valve replaced. Hopefully it won't be too expensive. Thanks again!

Hey, no problem! I'm happy to help if I can. If your Kodiaq had driven a similar number of kilometers as my Superb when the problem occurred, then the EGR valve is an obvious assumption. It was the same for me. Replacing the EGR valve can indeed be a costly affair. But it's not something you should put off for too long. Not only because of the loss of performance, but also because a defective EGR valve can cause considerable damage to the engine in the worst case. So you'd better make an appointment at your garage soon. Maybe they also have some kind of installment payment offer for more expensive repairs. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the damage is repaired quickly and that you'll soon be able to drive again without any problems!

Hey, thanks for your encouraging words and advice! I think I'll make an appointment straight away on Monday and hope that it won't be too expensive. Your experience really helps me to keep a clear head. I also hope that everything gets sorted quickly and without any further problems. Maybe I'll get in touch with you again later! Thanks again and have a nice day!
