Skoda Kodiaq engine issues

My 2018 Skoda Kodiaq with a gasoline engine is giving me grief. The check engine light is on, and it's running really rough. I'm getting smoke when accelerating, plus some jerking and a loud hissing noise. Power seems reduced too. Could this be the EGR valve? I'm worried about failing the vehicle emissions test and damaging the catalytic converter. The higher fuel consumption is annoying too.

Sounds like you're having a similar issue I had with my Kodiaq. Check engine light, rough idle... Does it also smell a bit funny? Could be the EGR valve. Is your fuel consumption higher than normal?

Yeah, fuel consumption is definitely up. How did you figure out it was the EGR valve? Did you replace it yourself?

I didn't replace it myself, no. Took it to a workshop. Given the symptoms – check engine, rough idle, smoke, jerking – they suspected the EGR valve right away. The hissing noise probably confirms it's jammed open. Best to get it checked professionally, especially with vehicle emissions being a concern.

Just got my Kodiaq back from the shop. It was indeed the EGR valve. New one fitted, cost 355€. Runs like new again!
