Shaking while idling

Hello everyone, I have problems with my Skoda Kodiaq (year of manufacture 2018, petrol engine). Symptoms are: black smoke when accelerating, check engine light on, loss of power, uneven engine running, jerking when accelerating, engine won't start, poor fuel consumption, stalling at idle, engine wobbles at idle. I suspect that it could be due to defective ignition coils or misfiring. Has anyone had similar experiences and any tips on how to fix the problem in the workshop? What was your experience? Thanks in advance!

Hi, your symptoms sound very much like problems with the engine control unit. I had similar problems with my Skoda Octavia (built in 2016). My level of car mechanic knowledge is rather low, so I went straight to the garage. There they discovered that the engine control unit was faulty. The repair wasn't cheap - it cost me around 1,000 euros - but my car ran perfectly again afterwards. The workshop replaced the defective control unit and reprogrammed it. If you have similar symptoms, it could well be that the engine control unit is also affected. To be able to help you more precisely, it would be good to know whether your Kodiaq displays similar error messages in the diagnostic device or which error codes are stored. This could help to narrow down the problem even further. Good luck and hopefully your Kodiaq will be running smoothly again soon! Best regards!

Hey, thanks for your tip! I had a service interval check last week and am now at 218765 km. The garage didn't read out any error messages, so I'm unsure about the engine control unit. I'll have a look! Thank you and best regards!

Hey, thanks for your reply! I checked everything thoroughly again yesterday and indeed the engine control unit was not affected. No error codes were read out. However, I remembered your experience and then took another closer look at the ignition coils. I then checked all 4 ignition coils on my Skoda Kodiaq and found that one of them was not working properly. After replacing the defective ignition coil, the engine ran much more smoothly. I should probably change the spark plugs again now, just to be on the safe side. So if anyone has the same symptoms, I would definitely recommend checking the ignition coils and spark plugs first. Sometimes it's the simpler things. Thanks again for your input and I hope I could help others with similar problems. Best regards!

Hey, great that you gave me the idea about the ignition coils! After I checked everything thoroughly again yesterday, it turned out that it was actually a defective ignition coil. After I replaced it, the engine runs much more smoothly again. To be on the safe side, I will now also replace the spark plugs. If anyone has similar problems, definitely check the ignition coils and spark plugs first. Sometimes it really is the simpler things! Thanks again and best regards!
