Skoda Kodiaq 2019 problems with the exhaust gas recirculation or EGR valve
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
The 2019 Skoda Kodiaq Diesel is experiencing issues such as the Check Engine light, engine stalling, power loss, rough idling, and a strong exhaust smell, which are suspected to be caused by a faulty EGR valve. Similar symptoms were reported by another Skoda owner, who resolved the issue by cleaning and replacing the EGR valve and seals. The recommended solution is to have the EGR valve inspected and possibly replaced by a reliable mechanic, as neglecting this issue could lead to long-term engine damage.

Thanks for your answer! Do you remember how much you paid for the repair? And has anything similar happened to your Octavia since then? Kind regards!

Hey, sure, I remember that well. The repair cost me a total of €355. The EGR valve was defective and jammed, which caused all these problems. The mechanic replaced the valve and then everything ran perfectly again - no more loss of power and the check engine light also stayed off. Since then I have had no more problems with the EGR valve or similar symptoms. The car has been running smoothly ever since and I'm pretty happy. If you have any questions or need further details, please let me know! Best regards!

Thanks for the info, that helps me! To be honest, I'm pretty annoyed and at the same time relieved that it really is the EGR valve. I quickly found a well-rated mechanic near me on the internet. So, yesterday I grabbed my Skoda and drove straight there. The guy there was really friendly and immediately took care of my car. He called me in the afternoon and confirmed that it was indeed the EGR valve. He replaced it and also replaced some seals. It cost me just under €400 in total, but what the heck - the main thing is that the car is running smoothly again. Now I just hope that's the end of the problems for now. I will definitely stick with this mechanic in the future. Thanks again to everyone for the tips and experiences! Best regards!

Servus, It is well known that VAG vehicles often have problems with the EGR valve and the EGR cooler. So according to your description, I would also think that it is the EGR system.

Hi, I had similar problems with my 2016 Skoda Octavia Diesel (approx. 150,000 km). The symptoms were almost identical: Check Engine light on, engine sometimes stalled, significant power loss and a very rough idle. The mechanic immediately suspected the EGR valve. It turned out that it really was the EGR valve that was stuck. The valve was removed, cleaned and some of the affected seals also had to be replaced. This was a serious matter, as a defective EGR valve can damage the engine in the long term. If you are looking for a good mechanic, it is always helpful to browse forums and review portals or ask for recommendations from friends and family. Good luck!
