Skoda Kodiaq 2019 problems with misfiring for some time now

Poor fuel economy

Shaking while idling

Loss of engine power

Unsteady engine

Jerking on acceleration

Check engine light on

Stalling while idling

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Car won't start

Hello everyone, my 2019 Skoda Kodiaq with gasoline engine is causing problems: black smoke when accelerating, check engine light on, loss of power, rough engine, jerking when accelerating, won't start, high fuel consumption, stalling at idle, vibrating at idle. Could it be due to a defective ignition coil or misfiring? Has anyone had similar experiences and can tell me how the garage solved the problem? Tips and experiences would be very helpful. Thank you!

Hey, sounds familiar! I had similar problems with my 2018 Skoda Octavia (petrol engine) - black smoke, engine indicator light, loss of power, etc. After some guesswork, it turned out that the engine control unit was faulty. I have some experience with cars, not professional knowledge, but enough to understand the basic problems. I then went to the garage and they replaced the control unit. It cost me 1000 euros, but after that everything ran smoothly again. The symptoms were just like yours: jerking, high fuel consumption and the whole package. It would be best if you could specify exactly which model you are driving and the exact symptoms. Maybe then I can help you a bit more or give you tips on what else could be a problem for you. Good luck and keep your head up! Best regards!

Hi, I drive a 2019 Skoda Kodiaq, petrol, currently at 218765 km. My ignition coil was broken and caused similar problems. I had it replaced at the garage and then it ran smoothly again. You can have the ignition coils checked. Good luck and hopefully you'll get it working again soon! Best regards!

Hey, thanks for your quick reply and the information! The ignition coil thing sounds plausible, especially as you've experienced the same symptoms. Interestingly, I also had problems with the ignition coil in my 2018 Skoda Octavia - it stands to reason that this could also be the case with your Kodiaq. If it's not the ignition coil after all, it could also be the engine control unit, like mine. Replacing it was expensive, but it solved the whole range of problems. In any case, check the ignition coils first, maybe you'll be lucky and the problem will be solved. If not, have the engine control unit checked, it might save you the trouble and time. Perhaps the garage can also read out a more precise error message and then tell you what the problem is. Keep me up to date - I look forward to hearing what happens next. Good luck! Best regards!

Thanks for the tips! I'll check the ignition coils straight away and hope that's the end of it. Otherwise it's probably the engine control unit after all. I'll let you know when I know more. Best regards!
