Skoda Karoq problems with misfiring for some time now

Car won't start

Unsteady engine

Jerking on acceleration

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Check engine light on

Shaking while idling

Poor fuel economy

Stalling while idling

Loss of engine power

Hello everyone, I have a problem with my 2017 Skoda Karoq (petrol, 96543 km). The following symptoms are occurring: black smoke from the exhaust when accelerating, engine light on, loss of power, rough engine running, jerking when accelerating, starting problems, high fuel consumption, stalling at idle, and shuddering at idle. I suspect it could be due to a defective ignition coil or misfiring. Have any of you had similar experiences? What was the cause and how did your mechanic solve the problem? I would be grateful for any tips, as I had a rather bad experience the last time I went to the garage. Thanks in advance!

Hey, I can well understand you, I had similar symptoms with my 2015 Skoda Octavia. In my case, it was actually the engine control unit that was faulty. The symptoms were practically the same: black smoke, engine light, loss of power, rough engine running, etc. At the workshop, they read out the control unit and found that it was defective. It had to be replaced and reprogrammed. They also checked all the sensors to make sure everything was working properly after the replacement. That was definitely a serious matter, but afterwards the engine ran perfectly again. You might also have the control unit checked. It could well be that this is the cause in your case too. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for the tip! That really does sound like a possible cause. Do you remember roughly how much you paid for the replacement and reprogramming of the control unit? And did you have any further problems afterwards or did your Octavia run perfectly again? Best regards!

Hey, sure, I can tell you. It wasn't exactly cheap... The repair costs for the engine control unit were pretty much exactly €1000 for me. Once the mechanic had done this, the problems with the defective ignition coil or the misfiring were completely resolved. The engine ran great again and I had no further problems with it. I would really recommend that you have the engine control unit read out. If it's the same problem, that could be the solution. Good luck and hope that your Karoq runs well again soon! Best regards!

Hey, thanks a lot for the information! That really helps me. I will definitely have the engine control unit checked. Hopefully that will be the solution to all my problems. By the way, I've just been to my trusted garage here in town and they also immediately said that it could be the electronics. Let's see what they come up with. That would probably be better than constantly buying new ignition coils. I'll keep you posted on how things progress. Thanks again for your support! Best regards!
