Skoda Karoq error message

I'm getting rather frustrated with my 2017 Skoda Karoq Diesel. It only has 20671 km on it, but an error message keeps popping up. It's stored in the error memory, shows on the infotainment system, and even flashes on the speedometer. My initial thought is that the car's coding is off. Has anyone experienced anything similar? I'm not sure what the problem might be, or if there is any potential damage to the engine and its diagnostics.

Sounds like a software glitch. A fault code means the car's computer detected something it doesn't like. The malfunction indicator on your dash is probably lit. Have you tried using a diagnostic scanner to read the code? It could be a simple fix.

Thanks, that's helpful. I'm not too familiar with diagnostic scanners. Is that something I can do myself, or do I need special equipment? Is it also something that can be solved by disconnecting the battery for a while?

Disconnecting the battery might clear the error temporarily, but it probably won't fix the underlying problem. You can buy a basic scan tool – also called a diagnostic scanner – relatively cheaply to read the error code yourself. However, since it involves coding and a warning on the dash, it might be best to take it to a workshop. They have professional engine diagnostics equipment and can properly diagnose and fix control module issues.

Took the Karoq to the shop, and you were right. The control module coding was the problem. They recoded it, and the errors are gone. Cost me 360€. Thanks for your help!
