Skoda Karoq Diesel 2019: Illuminated engine control light, power loss and high fuel consumption

Loss of engine power

Shaking while idling

Check engine light on

Strong exhaust smell

Poor fuel economy

Hello, my 2019 Skoda Karoq diesel has the check engine light on and is also losing power. To make matters worse, the fuel consumption is high, it stinks of exhaust and it wobbles when idling. It's probably the engine running rough, but I'm not sure. Have any of you ever had similar problems and can give me a few tips? I would like to know what the workshop did and what your experiences were. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2017 Skoda Karoq Diesel - almost the same model as yours, just a few years older. I wouldn't claim to be a car expert, but I've had a bit of experience. At the time, my garage diagnosed that the cause was a leaking exhaust system. The repair cost me 265 euros and then everything ran like clockwork again. Of course, it could be that your problem is different, but it might be worth taking it up with your garage. Could you perhaps give me a little more information about your car? That could help me give you some more tips. Service life, mileage, any recent repairs or modifications could be relevant. All in all, I can only say that my garage was excellent. Have them check it out, it doesn't cost anything and maybe you'll be lucky and it's just something small. Hope this helps you!

Hi, thanks for your reply! My Karoq has now done just over 31087 km. I last had the car in the garage about 2 weeks ago, they did the standard service, but no repairs. The problem with the check engine light and power only came up after that. I'll take your suggestion and raise it with my garage. Hopefully it's nothing major. Thanks again for your tip!

Hello again! With just under 31k kilometers, your Karoq Diesel has already seen a lot. It's still strange that the engine indicator light and the loss of power only appeared after the service. It could be that something was overlooked during the standard service or perhaps it's just a faulty sensor. Next time you visit the garage, ask about the exhaust system, as I said last time. But also tell them that this all happened right after their service. It could be that they missed something during the last service. Then maybe they could fix it at no additional cost. Oh, and one more thing - better not drive around too much until the problem is solved. You don't want to risk the problem getting worse or damaging other parts of the car. Keep me posted if you have any further questions!

Hi again, thanks for your quick reply and tips. Yes, you're right, it's really strange that the problems only occurred after the service. I will definitely raise the point about the exhaust system and point out that it happened after the last service. I hope they find the problem and it's nothing major. And thanks for the advice about not driving the car again until the problem is resolved. I will try to avoid this as much as possible. Thanks again for your help, I really appreciate it! I'll get back to you if I have any further questions or news from the garage.
