Car won't start

Hey guys, I have a 2017 Skoda Karoq Diesel with a whopping 176543 km on the clock and I'm having a real headache with this car right now. The check engine light is on, the engine stalls out of the blue, cold starts take forever, and on top of that it's a powerless engine that just runs rough. It jerks when accelerating and sometimes won't start at all, in short, total chaos. I wasn't exactly happy with my last garage experience, so I'd like to ask for advice here before I go back to a garage. My guess is that the fuel pump is faulty, but what do you think? Have any of you had similar experiences and can report on your visit to the garage? Many thanks in advance for your help!

Hey, I had exactly the same problems with my 2018 Skoda Kodiaq Diesel. In my case, it was also incorrect software values for the fuel pump. As a result, the engine also ran erratically, sometimes crashed and the check engine light came on. After a visit to the workshop, the fault was found and a software update was necessary to rectify the problem. This also eliminated the difficult cold start and the jerking when accelerating. So it wasn't exactly a simple fault, but fortunately not a serious hardware defect. Your symptoms sound very similar, so I would definitely recommend having it checked. It's annoying, but hopefully you can prevent it from getting worse. All the best and hopefully you can solve the problem soon!

Hey, that sounds really similar to my problem! Good to know that it was "only" a software update in your case and not a major hardware defect. Do you happen to remember how much the update cost in the workshop? And has anything else come up since then or is your Skoda now running smoothly again? Thank you in advance and best regards!

Hey, of course I remember, it wasn't actually as expensive as I thought. I paid €45 for the software update of the fuel pump, which is pretty reasonable as the workshop fixed this software error. And since the workshop visit, my Skoda has been running like a dream again, without any problems. Nothing has come up again and, most importantly, the faulty fuel pump error has been fixed. So your Karoq should run smoothly again after such a software update. I hope your problem ends just as well! All the best and drive carefully!

Hey, thanks for the info and the encouraging words! 45€ does indeed sound a lot better than I expected. Good to hear that your Skoda has been running smoothly since then! I'm going to do the same with my Karoq now and hope that a software update for the fuel pump will fix the fault. Much better than investing in a new engine or something! Thanks again for the help and stay safe on the roads! Best regards!
