Skoda Kamiq problems with exhaust gas recirculation or EGR valve

Hey guys, I have a problem with my 2019 Skoda Kamiq (diesel), which has now run 176,543 km. Symptoms: check engine light on, engine stalls by itself, loss of power, rough engine, strong exhaust smell, and shaking at idle. Could this be a fault in the EGR valve? I had a bad experience at my last visit to the garage, so I wanted to ask if any of you have had similar experiences and what caused them. What was your experience at the workshop? Thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

A 2019 Skoda Kamiq with 176,543 km exhibited issues such as the check engine light, engine stalling, power loss, rough running, strong exhaust smell, and shaking at idle. These symptoms pointed to a potential fault in the EGR valve. A similar case with a Skoda Octavia confirmed that a defective and jammed EGR valve could cause such problems, and replacing it resolved the issues. Following advice, the EGR valve was replaced in the Kamiq, restoring its performance.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I had similar problems with my 2016 Skoda Octavia (diesel) with approx. 150,000 km on the clock. The symptoms were almost identical: check engine light, engine stalled, loss of power, rough running and strong exhaust smell. In my case, the EGR valve was actually defective and partially jammed. The workshop replaced the EGR valve and cleaned it thoroughly. It was a serious problem because the defective valve was affecting the engine and other components. Since the replacement, my Octavia has been running perfectly again. Would advise you to have this checked quickly. Hope this helps you! Regards

Hey, thanks for your answer! Sounds a lot like my problem. Do you remember what you paid for the repair? Were there any other things that came up with you afterwards? Regards

Hey, no problem! Sure, I still remember that. The EGR valve cost me a total of €355, including installation and thorough cleaning. Since then, the "functional fault in the EGR valve" had been rectified and the car was running great again. After the repair, there were no more problems, everything ran smoothly. I would really recommend that you have this done as soon as possible before any more damage occurs. Good luck and hopefully your Kamiq will be running smoothly again soon! LG

Hey guys, thanks to everyone for the quick feedback! You have really helped me. After the exchange here in the community, I quickly made an appointment with another garage. I wanted to sort it out as quickly as possible and minimize the risk of further damage. Yesterday I went to the mechanic and sure enough, it was the EGR valve. It ended up costing me just under €370 including parts and labor. But the mechanic also said that the rest of the engine was still in good shape, which of course reassured me. So, thanks again for the tips! Now my Skoda Kamiq is running like clockwork again. If anyone has any questions about the repair or the workshop, just let me know. Best regards!
