Skoda Kamiq heavy steering issue

I'm getting incredibly frustrated with my 2021 Skoda Kamiq with a gasoline engine. It's done 245733 km, and the steering has become really heavy, almost like the power steering has failed intermittently. Plus, the steering wheel vibrates and shakes sometimes. I suspect the steering angle sensor is defective. Has anyone experienced something similar? Any advice?

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my Kamiq a while back. The symptoms sound very familiar. For me, it turned out to be a problem with the steering angle sensor. Have you had your wheel alignment checked recently? Sometimes alignment problems can throw off the sensor, and that affects the traction control system. It's worth a look, especially if you've hit any potholes lately.

Thanks for the quick response! When you say 'problem with the steering angle sensor,' what exactly do you mean? Was it a replacement, or something else? And how did you figure out that was the issue? I'm just trying to understand the technical side a bit better.

Yeah, in my case, the steering sensor coding was faulty. The garage confirmed it with their diagnostic tools. Initially, I also suspected issues with the steering column itself, but thankfully it was just the sensor needing recalibration. Given the mileage, I'd suggest getting it checked by a professional to avoid further issues. It might save you some headaches down the road. If the coding is faulty, it can cause all sorts of weird alignment problems and mess with the traction control.

Just wanted to say thank you so much for your help! It was exactly as you said. Took it to a workshop, they recoded the steering angle sensor, and now it's perfect. Cost me 195€, which I'm happy to pay to have my car driving smoothly again.
