Skoda Kamiq engine power loss and flickering lights

My 2023 Skoda Kamiq with a gasoline engine is giving me fits. I'm experiencing reduced engine power, a warning light constantly glaring at me, and it's starting poorly. Plus, the lights are flickering like a disco. I'm thinking it might be a faulty generator (alternator issue), but I'm no mechanic. The error memory has something stored, but I don't have the equipment to analyze it further. Could it be that the battery is low?

Sounds like an alternator issue to me. I had similar problems with my old Opel Corsa a few years back. Reduced engine power, warning lights, the whole shebang. Did you check the serpentine belt? A worn belt can cause the alternator to not charge properly. Also, have you scanned the car for error codes? A low battery can trigger all sorts of weirdness in modern car electronics.

Serpentine belt looks okay to my untrained eye. But you mentioned error codes – is there a specific code I should be looking for? Anything that screams 'alternator'?

Yes, there should be codes related to charging system voltage or alternator performance. In my case, it was a specific 'alternator defective' code. Since you have multiple symptoms – weak lights, poor starting, and reduced power – it strongly points to the alternator not providing enough charge. I would suggest going to the workshop to have the alternator tested and most likely perform an alternator replacement.

Wow, thanks for sharing your experience! I took it to the shop, and you were spot on. Turns out the generator was indeed defective. They're doing an alternator replacement now. The whole thing is costing me about 960€, ouch! But at least it will be fixed. Really appreciate the advice!
