Skoda Fabia Engine Trouble

My 2008 Skoda Fabia with a gasoline engine is giving me headaches. Mileage is 161720 km. The engine won't start in Park. Check engine light is on. The gearbox also slips sometimes. Error memory says affected control unit is defective. Could this be related to park brake or transmission issues?

Check engine light and slipping gears? Does the gear shifter feel loose? It could be a shift lock issue. Have you tried shifting to neutral and restarting?

If it's the shift lock, it might be stuck. That would explain why it won't start in Park. But with the error code and slipping, it could be deeper transmission issues. Is it worth trying to fix it yourself? Probably best to get a professional to check.

The workshop confirmed the defective control unit. 1000€ later, the transmission issues are resolved. It shifts cleanly now.
