Skoda Fabia engine issues

I think I might be in trouble. My 2004 Skoda Fabia with a gasoline engine is acting up. Check engine light is on, feels like it's lost some power, and I'm seeing some smoke when I accelerate. Thinking it might be the crankcase ventilation valve... any thoughts?

Sounds like a PCV valve issue. I had similar symptoms on my Octavia, though mine was a bit older. Check engine light, rough idle, and some smoke. Have you looked for any obvious leaks around the valve or hoses?

Thanks for the reply! I did a quick visual check, but didn't spot any obvious leaks. Where exactly should I be looking on the valve? And how would I test if it's actually the PCV that's causing the malfunction?

Yeah, on mine it was a tiny crack in one of the hoses connected to the PCV. Hard to spot at first. Honestly, given the symptoms, it's likely the PCV valve especially with the smoke. The smoke usually means unburnt fuel is getting sucked into the crankcase. If you're not comfortable digging deeper, might be worth taking it to a workshop. A faulty PCV can cause more damage if left unchecked.

Huge thanks for the insight! It was indeed the PCV valve. Ended up costing me 360€ at the shop but the Fabia is running smooth again. Lesson learned: crankcase ventilation maintenance is important!
