Skoda Fabia Active Hood Fault

My 2000 Skoda Fabia gasoline engine is having issues. I am getting an Active hood fault message, and the airbag warning light is constantly on. The error memory confirms the active hood. The spring actuators have triggered. I have read that a defective acceleration sensor could be the cause. Any ideas?

That is an interesting issue. The active hood is part of the pedestrian protection system, and it sounds like the car thinks there has been a collision. I had a similar problem on my Volvo V70. The airbag light and error messages are concerning. The acceleration sensor is a plausible cause, as it is a crucial component of the crash detection system. Has the car been in any minor accidents or had any front-end work done recently?

No accidents, not even a scratch. But the roads around here aren't exactly smooth. Could a hard bump have triggered something? You mentioned pedestrian protection system does that mean the hood actually pops up in an accident?

A severe impact could potentially trigger the system, although it is designed to differentiate between normal road conditions and a collision. The active hood system is designed to pop the hood up slightly in a pedestrian collision to create a crumple zone. Given that the actuators have already triggered, it is likely the acceleration sensor is faulty and sending incorrect data to the car's computer. I advise having a qualified technician diagnose the system to confirm the faulty sensor before replacing any parts. This is a critical car safety feature, and you don't want to compromise the collision detection system.

The acceleration sensor was the problem. Replacing it fixed the error. It cost 315€, but the Skoda's safety system is working again. Thanks for the help.
