Skoda Citigo petrol engine 2015: Overheating problem and indicator light due to low coolant level

Coolant level low

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Hey guys, I have a strange problem with my 2015 Skoda Citigo petrol car. The indicator light in the speedometer is on, the car is overheating and the coolant level is low. I assume that the low coolant level could be the problem, but I would like to hear your opinions and advice on this. How did you get similar things fixed at the garage and what was your experience? Looking forward to your tips!

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2013 Skoda Octavia Diesel. I'm not a car mechanic, but I have had some experience with cars. At my garage, they recognized the fault and the problem was actually the low coolant level, just like yours. The solution was to top up the coolant and replace some parts. It cost me a total of 58 euros. Unfortunately, without knowing how many kilometers you have driven or what condition your car is in, I can't give you a more precise answer. Can you provide more information to help you?

Hey, thanks for your quick reply! My Citigo now has 67986 km on it. The last service was not too long ago, but no problems with the cooling system were reported. I think I'll follow your advice and top up the coolant and see if that helps. Maybe they'll take my little runabout to the garage then too.... Thanks again!

Hey, you're welcome. With your mileage and the fact that you've only recently had your Citigo serviced, topping up the coolant should indeed help. It could be that just a small leak is causing the coolant to be lost slowly. At the same time, it could counteract your car's overheating problems. However, if you notice that the coolant gets low again quite quickly, then this could indicate a bigger problem. In that case, you really should visit the garage and have it checked. It could well be more expensive if you put it off. The 52 euros I paid were only because I reacted in good time. If I had waited longer, I would certainly have incurred additional costs. So it's better to go to the garage once more and sleep more soundly afterwards! I hope this helps you!

All right, your recommendations sound very logical and understandable. I'll top up the coolant immediately and then keep a close eye on how this affects the engine's overheating. If it's still not right, I'll of course go straight to the workshop. It's really better to sort it out straight away and not let any major problems arise. I think it's similar to us humans, it's better to go to the doctor at the first sign of illness than to drag everything out. Thank you again for your help, I really appreciate it!

Hey! It does sound like the low coolant level might be causing the overheating issue. Have you had a chance to top it up yet? How has your experience been with your garage for similar problems in the past?

It's great that you're planning to top up the coolant and monitor the situation. However, please remember that overheating can cause serious damage to your engine. If the problem persists after topping up the coolant, I strongly recommend taking your car to a professional mechanic as soon as possible.
