Skoda Citigo Low Coolant Issue

My 2016 Skoda Citigo with a gasoline engine, mileage at 169189 km, is showing low coolant. Check engine light is on. I read the error memory with VCDS. It mentions a defective cable or plug connection. Anyone had similar issues? I'm not seeing any obvious leaks, and I'm hoping it's not the dreaded head gasket...

Low coolant in a Citigo can be tricky. Does the temperature gauge behave normally, or are you seeing any engine overheating? Have you checked the radiator cap for proper sealing? Also, inspect all radiator hoses for any signs of leaks or swelling. Sometimes, even a small leak can cause a significant drop in coolant over time. Don't rule out potential air pockets in the cooling system either. These can sometimes cause erratic coolant level readings.

Engine overheating is not happening. Radiator hoses look ok. Air pockets, interesting... Is it difficult to check them? How did you know about the air pockets?

I experienced similar symptoms with my Citigo. The air pockets caused fluctuating coolant levels and triggered the warning light intermittently. However, based on your description and the error code pointing to a defective connection, it's less likely to be air pockets and more likely an electrical issue affecting the coolant level sensor. Given the error code, I would advise against extensive DIY diagnosis. The defective cable could be anywhere, and without the proper tools, you risk damaging other components. A workshop can pinpoint the exact location quickly.

Right, I took it to the workshop, and they found a defective cable connection as suspected. They replaced it, and the error's gone. Total cost 95€. Thanks for the hint!
