Skoda Citigo gearbox issue

I am writing to seek some guidance regarding a problem I am experiencing with my 2017 Skoda Citigo, which has a gasoline engine. The vehicle has covered some distance. I believe the transfer case is in limp mode. The primary symptom is that the gearbox seems to be slipping and shifting in an unclean manner. From my limited understanding, I suspect there may be consequential faults stemming from potential issues within the ABS system. I am hoping someone might have some insight into this matter.

I had something similar happen in my Citigo, though I can't remember the exact mileage at the time. The gearbox felt like it was shifting through treacle, if you know what I mean. For me, it turned out to be a fault in the ABS system that was causing the traction control to freak out, which then threw the gearbox into limp home mode. Have you had any diagnostic trouble codes read? That would be the first place to start. It might sound odd, but the ABS system can sometimes cause havoc with the gearbox.

That's interesting. I hadn't considered the ABS system. When you say 'freak out', what exactly did you experience? Were there any warning lights on the dashboard, or any other symptoms besides the gearbox issue?

Yes, there were warning lights on the dash, specifically the traction control light was flashing intermittently. The 'freak out' was more about how the car was behaving. It felt like the traction control was constantly intervening, even on dry roads. This then seemed to confuse the gearbox, causing it to shift erratically and eventually go into limp home mode. If you can get your hands on a diagnostic tool, check for ABS related codes. It's worth a look before you start worrying about the torque converter or gear selector. But honestly, best get it to a workshop if you're not sure.

I took your advice and went to the workshop. You were spot on! It was related to the ABS system, which was throwing up consequential faults. The good news is, after a diagnostic check and a system reset, everything's back to normal. No parts needed replacing, so the whole thing cost me 0€! Thanks again for your help; I really appreciate it.
