Thank you for your reply. I visually inspected the connector, but I did not specifically check for corrosion. Where exactly should I look for it and how would I test it? Is it possible to check the crankshaft sensor?

Corrosion can be subtle, look for greenish deposits on the pins and inside the connector. A multimeter can help test for continuity and voltage at the sensor. While you're at it, checking the crankshaft sensor is not a bad idea, it could also be related to the engine misfire. However, without proper diagnostic tools, identifying the root cause can be challenging. If you're not comfortable with electrical testing, I suggest consulting a professional.

The workshop confirmed the defective camshaft sensor. They also found a corroded connector, which was the likely root cause. After replacing the sensor and cleaning the connector, the Citigo is running smoothly again. The total cost was indeed around 95€ as initially estimated. Thank you for your advice.

A defective camshaft sensor can indeed cause such issues. The symptoms you describe are typical. I had a similar problem with my Opel Corsa a while back. Did you check the wiring harness and the connector for corrosion or damage?
