Severe engine oil contamination in Audi A1 from 2018 - help and experience wanted

Overheating

Metal shavings in oil

Weird engine noise

Oil light on

Hello friends, I have a problem with my Audi A1 (year of manufacture 2018, gasoline). The oil light is on, the engine is overheating and making strange noises. I think there is a contamination of the engine oil because I see metal dirt in the oil. Does anyone have any idea whether this could really be the case and what is the best way to fix the problem? Has anyone had similar experiences and could report back from their workshop repair? Thanks in advance!

Hello, I have experienced a similar situation with my Audi A3 (built in 2016, gasoline). I'm not an expert, but I have some experience with cars. At my garage, they first checked the oil level and the quality of the oil. They said the problem was caused by a defective component that was causing metal dirt in the oil. This repair cost me 625 euros. Of course, it's difficult to make an accurate diagnosis without seeing the car for yourself. Can you provide more information about your car, such as model, mileage or service history? This could help us to help you a little more accurately.

Hey, thanks for your answer! Well, my A1 has now covered 36790 km. The last time it was checked in the garage was when I bought it. After that, not much has happened, an inspection now and then and not much else really. Your story worries me a bit, because such expensive repairs are of course really stupid... But if it has to be done, it has to be done. Does anyone have any other ideas or experience?

Hey, no problem! So with the mileage and the fact that it was only in the workshop when you bought it, I suspect there might be a slightly more serious problem. Could be that there's a faulty part causing the metal gunk in the oil. On my A3 it was a machined aluminum part. It could also be the thermostat or the water pump, that would be a possible cause of the overheating. Strange engine noises could indicate a faulty starter motor or a broken timing belt. But you can only really tell if you check the car properly. If you're not sure, it's better not to take any risks and go to the garage to find out exactly what's wrong. I'm sorry I don't have any better news for you. It's always a shame when you have unexpected costs, especially with something like this. Hopefully it's nothing serious and can be fixed quickly!

Thank you very much for your valuable advice! Your assessments sound worse than I thought, but you're right, it's better if I take it to the garage to find out the exact fault. A faulty part or starter motor would be really bad... But well, off to the mechanic. Thanks, anyway! And yes, unexpected costs are a horror. But safety first. I'll get back to you after the workshop visit and let you know. Wish me luck!
