Seeking Troubleshooting Tips for a 2014 Hyundai Porter's Overheating and Check Engine Light Issues - Possible Thermostat Problem?

Check engine light on

Overheating

Hey! I've got a 2014 Hyundai Porter with a gasoline engine that's acting up lately. My ride's overheating, and the check engine light just came on. I'm suspecting the coolant thermostat might be the culprit. Anyone experienced something similar? Any troubleshooting tips would be huge - specifically, how did you or your mechanic resolve it? Appreciate your insights!

Hey! Faced a similar issue a couple of years back with my 2012 Hyundai H350 diesel engine. By no means am I a car guru, but I got some hands-on experience with my ride. The overheating was driving me nuts! I took it to my regular workshop, the guys got their hands dirty and found out there was a damage to the wiring harness - was quite a surprise, to be honest. Ended up shelling out 170 Euro for them to patch it all up. Could you tell me if you've noticed any smoke or strange smells when your engine overheats? Would you also mind checking your coolant level and your radiator fan? After dealing with these things, we might be able to help you out even better! Cheers!

Hey there, Thanks for getting back to me! I've checked the coolant level, and it looks fine. Haven't spotted any unusual smoke or smells either, and the radiator fan appears to be doing its job as well. For an added layer of context, my ride's clocked approximately 70872 KM since the last service, all being well. I reckon I might need to follow your footsteps and seek some professional help – any other pointers before I head over would be a big help! Cheers!

Hey there, Good to hear that you've done some initial checks. Since you didn't find anything unusual with the coolant, smoke or the radiator fan, your trouble might be elsewhere. Considering the distance your ride has covered, it could be quite a few things. But as you initially thought, your thermostat could be malfunctioning. It's a very common issue when the engine overheats. If the thermostat is stuck closed, it could be preventing the coolant from circulating, causing the engine to overheat. It can also trigger the check engine light when it fails. So, definitely ask your mechanic to check the thermostat. If it is the issue, replacing it shouldn't be too pricy. Also, ask them to look for any engine codes via OBD II scan to confirm if the trouble is linked to the thermostat or anything else. Hope you sort it out soon! Cheers!

Hey! I can't thank you enough for your quick and insightful response! Based on what you said, I'll ask my mechanic to take a closer look at the thermostat and to do an OBD II scan for any engine codes. I'm crossing my fingers it's just the thermostat - it sounds manageable, expense-wise. Glad I reached out here. I'll drop an update once everything's been looked at and sorted out. Many thanks! Cheers!
