Seeking Troubleshooting Advice for Engine Issues in 2019 Seat Tarraco

Check engine light on

Loss of engine power

Jerking on acceleration

Hey fellow car buffs, I've got an odd issue with my 2019 Seat Tarraco with a gas engine. The check engine light is on, the car is losing power and the engine is unsteady. Worse still, it won't start and jerks when I try to accelerate. The car even stalls when idling. I'm suspecting there might be an issue with the camshaft sensor but I need some advice to narrow down the problem. Has anyone experienced something similar and got it fixed? Any tips and insights on the troubleshooting process would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Hey there! I've got some experience with car issues, though I'd say I'm more or similar to halfway through the scale of "noob" to "gearhead". Funnily enough, I had a seemingly similar issue with my 2017 Seat Leon, just a different model but likely quite similar in design. The symptoms were pretty similar to yours, frustratingly erratic power levels and the engine kept cutting out at idle, so it's possible that you're correct about the issue. For me, it turned out to be a defective sensor wheel on the camshafts. Had my local workshop guys fix it, who I trust as they've always been reliable and honest. Cost me about 695.00 Euro, which wasn't too bad considering the headache it was giving me. But every car can be different, so it might be helpful if you could provide some more specifics on your car like mileage, recent changes, if any maintenance was done recently. And of course, please ensure a certified mechanic checks it out to be sure. Hope this helps and best of luck with your Seat!

Hey, appreciate the insight! Quite similar issues, indeed. My Tarraco has clocked about 143717 KM so far. I had my last service just over a month ago, didn't spot any issues then, ran quite smooth initially. As for maintenance, there's nothing out of ordinary, just routine stuff. I guess I'll have to take it to a reliable mechanic as you suggested, can't risk any further damage. Once again, thanks for sharing your experience and advice, really helpful! Take care.

No problem, I'm glad to provide any assistance I can! With the amount of mileage on your Tarraco, wear and tear might have played a factor in this. I remember when my Leon had about the same mileage when I faced a similar issue, so the symptoms do seem to line up. When you take it in, a good mechanic should be able to determine if it is indeed a camshaft problem or if the issue lies elsewhere, say a failing ignition coil or a dirty MAF sensor. As an additional tip, you might want to consider getting your car's error code read. This could provide a definitive diagnosis and potentially save you time and money. At the end of the day, it’s all about bringing back the peace of mind and enjoying the ride. Be confident, many issues initially seem severe but turn out to be quite straightforward. Don't hesitate to drop an update here when you've sorted out your problem. Fellow car enthusiasts around here (including me!) are always eager to hear follow-ups. Safe travels!

Hey, those are solid tips! I'll definitely ask the mechanic to pull out the error code, feels like it could help a lot. I surely hope the issue is relatively straightforward, thanks for the optimism - I could use some right about now! I will definitely post an update here when it's all done and dusted. Appreciate your help and good vibes. Safe travels to you too!
