Seeking Solutions for Unexpected Light-Related Faults in 2003 Mazda Bongo Diesel

Error in the lighting

Lights are turning on

Hey! I've got a bit of a head-scratcher with my 2003 Mazda Bongo Diesel. Lately, it's been throwing some light-related faults, with the lights going on unexpectedly. I'm suspecting there might be some issues with the light switch functions. Has anyone else experienced this before and how did your garage sort it out? Any tips or suggestions on figuring this problem out would be a big help. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! Well, I remember having a similar issue on my 2001 Mazda MPV. Not exactly a pro, but I'm pretty handy, so I'd say I've got some experience. Took my Mazda to my local garage, and after a few checks, they determined it was a Faulty plug connection messing with my lights. Got the plug replaced, all said and done, cost me about 222€. Not the cheapest, but at least my lights were back to normal. To give more context, could you share the specific model of your Bongo? Details on when and how the faults occur might also help. That way, I can perhaps provide more tailored advice. Cheers!

Hey, appreciate the reply! My Bongo is the 2003 Free Top model. As far as the issue goes, the lights flicker on and off at no particular time, day or night. I've clocked in some serious miles on this thing, about 282406 km to be exact. Had its last service not too long ago which didn't flag any issues. I'll definitely check up on that plug connection you mentioned. If it's as simple as that, I'll gladly shell out a couple hundred to get my Bongo all bright and shiny again. Thanks for the input!

Hey, no problem! Helping out a fellow Mazda owner is always a pleasure. Relevant details you've given. Those Bongo Free Tops are sweet rides, and they make quite a journey at 282406 km, impressive! About the light issue, irregular flickering sure sounds like a loose connection somewhere. If it was the light switch playing up, it would likely be a more consistent problem, like the lights refusing to switch on or off. But, of course, I'm just speculating based on my experience. Best take your Bongo to a reliable garage and describe what's happening. They could do a proper check on the entire lighting system. For what it's worth, do include the plug connection check. An uncomplicated fix is often a welcome reprieve. And hey, shining brighter on the road is always worth a few quids, isn't it? Do keep us updated. Hope your Bongo shines bright again soon! Cheers!

Hey, it's such a relief to hear from someone who actually gets it. Your speculations do make a lot of sense and I appreciate your thoughtful advice! Definitely going to take the Bongo to the garage and will include your suggestion about the plug connection check. Fingers crossed it's as simple as a loose connection or a faulty plug. I'll absolutely keep you posted on the outcome. Note to self, a few extra quids for a brighter ride, certainly seems worth it now. Thanks again for your help! Cheers!
