Seeking Solutions for Multiple Problems with 2023 Seat Tarraco Gasoline Engine: Black Smoke, Unstable Acceleration, and Engine Stalls

Engine shuts off by itself

Loss of engine power

Unsteady engine

Stalling while idling

Jerking on acceleration

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Poor fuel economy

Check engine light on

Strong exhaust smell

Hey folks, I'm facing a problematic situation with my 2023 Seat Tarraco with a Gasoline engine. Recently, she's been offering quite a dramatic performance with symptoms including a lot of black smoke when accelerating, an ever-present check engine light, unusual engine shutoffs, and a noticeable power loss. The engine's behavior is anything but stable, with jerky acceleration, and my fuel economy's taken a nose dive too. On top of this, there's a strong exhaust smell and it stalls at idle moments. I suspect it might be a fuel pressure regulator issue, but I'm interested in hearing other opinions or firsthand experiences. Has anyone else experienced this combination of issues and perhaps had it diagnosed and fixed? If so, what was your experience with your garage like? Any advice would be much appreciated!

Hey there, I've got a 2022 Seat Ibiza and encountered a pretty similar situation. Just as a disclosure, I'm no car expert but I've picked up some wisdom here & there. Now, I also had symptoms like black smoke, erratic engine, and the speckled engine light. I initially wasn't sure what to do, but I took it into my local garage. Turns out, it was an Error entry after changing the fuel filter. The awesome folks at my workshop reset the error code and it cost me a tidy 45 Euro, which, let me tell you, is a whole lot better than having a dodgy ride! Anyway, can you share some more details about your vehicle to see if your problem might be the same? Fuel type, engine size, recent service history would be helpful. Keep us posted!

Hey, Cheers for reaching out! I've clocked around 175,652 KM on my 2023 Tarraco, and I just serviced it last month. But unfortunately, didn't have the fuel filter changed then. From what you've said, I reckon I might need to have the fuel filter checked or probably replaced. Thanks for the heads up, I'll drop by the garage and see what they have to say. Your advice might have just saved me a bigger headache down the line! Appreciate it.

Hey again, Great to know you got some insights from my previous experience! It absolutely makes sense to check the fuel filter considering your mileage and recent service. However, don't rule out the initial suspicion of a malfunctioned fuel pressure regulator just yet. I would suggest your mechanic to check out both these parts. Also remember, if the fuel filter is clogged that could lead to improper fuel supply which might put extra strain on the fuel pressure regulator itself. If possible, ask the garage to run a code scanner through the vehicle's OBDII port to get an exact diagnosis. Anyway, keep us in the loop on the progress. Good luck with it, hope your Tarraco gets back to a smoother ride soon. Drive safe.

Hey, thanks for sticking around and giving me an even more comprehensive insight. I totally get what you’re saying about the strain on the fuel pressure regulator if the fuel filter is clogged. I'll make sure to ask my garage to run a code scanner for an exact diagnosis. Your advice really has been a learning ground for me and I'll keep everyone posted on how everything goes. Cheers to you and your awesome wisdom! Drive safe too.
