Seeking Solutions for Mazda 2 Diesel 2016: Poor Fuel Economy, Power Down, Starting Issues, and Check Engine Light

Check engine light on

Hey! Got a problem with my 2016 Mazda 2 Diesel that's driving me bonkers. The check engine light's on, it takes forever to start when it's cold, power's down, she's jerking when I accelerate, and the fuel economy's in the tank. Worst of all - sometimes she just refuses to start at all. I've been suspecting something up with the smooth running control, but could use more insights. Has anyone else had the same hassle and found a solution? Would be cool to hear what your workshop guys did to fix this. Any tips or shared experiences would be mega helpful!

Hi! Had a very similar headache with my 2018 Mazda 3 Diesel a while back. Consider me a car enthusiast with some experience, so hopefully my advice will help a bit! The problem you're describing sounds suspiciously like what happened to my Mazda. All those symptoms you've mentioned point to one thing: contaminated intake channels! It's like having clogged arteries, really messes with the engine's performance. I took my car to my trusted mechanic. They had a good look and found that the intake channels were really gunked up. After a good clean-up and service, which cost me a decent €425, she was running like a dream again. It's worth getting it checked out. Could you provide some more info about your car? Like how many miles it's done, when was your last service etc? That info can help me (and others here) give more tailored advice. Good luck!

Cheers for the reply! Good shout about the intake channels - hadn't thought of that and it totally makes sense. My Mazda's clocked up about 245,542 KM, and it did start acting up a bit after the last service, which was, by the way, a few months ago. So I guess I'd better get it back to the workshop to have them take a look at the intake channels. And gosh, €425 sounds painful, but if it gets the old gal running smoothly again, it'll be worth it. Thanks again for your help!

No worries! Happy to help. Yeah, those kilometres definitely add up, don't they? Given the symptoms you've mentioned and your car's mileage, it wouldn't surprise me if the intake channels are indeed the culprit. Remember, as painful as that €425 service might sound now, it could potentially save you more down the line if it solves the problem. Also, it might be worth mentioning to your mechanic about the issues starting up post last service. Maybe something wasn't done quite right, or they can zero in on what might have caused the issues. Keep us posted on how it goes. Good luck!

Top! Your advice's put my mind at ease a bit, reckon you're right about that €425 being a stitch in time. I'll definitely bring up the post-service issue as you suggested. Actually, I'm going to give the garage a ring after this and get her booked in for as soon as they can squeeze us in. Crossing my fingers it indeed solves the problem. Will let you peeps know how we get on! All the best and cheers once again!

Let our mechanics help you!
