Seeking Solutions for Key Fob Issues in 2020 Ford Smax due to Possible Faulty Antenna

Key fob issues

Hey! I'm dealing with a weird issue on my 2020 Ford Smax with a petrol engine. Lately, I've been having troubles with the key fob. My hunch is that we might have a faulty antenna in the bumper. Anyone here experienced a similar problem and found a definitive fix? I'd love to hear about how your workshop handled it and any insights you might have. Cheers!

Hey there! I can totally relate to your frustration. I had something similar happen to my 2018 Ford Galaxy, which has nearly the same configuration. Although I only have some basic experience with cars, a loose connection to the bumper antenna was indeed the issue. I took my vehicle to my trusted local mechanic. He confirmed that it was a defective cable connection to the bumper antenna. He replaced the faulty cable, and it cost me around 260€ in total. Since then, my car has been absolutely trouble-free, and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. If you could share additional info about your car (model specifics, recent repairs, etc.), I could maybe give you more tailored advice based on my experience. Good luck fixing your Fob issue!

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience; it's really helpful! Just to add to the information, my Ford Smax just clocked 56814 KM. In terms of recent repairs, I've not been into anything substantial except for a transmission fluid change during the last service. I will definitely consider your suggestion about checking the cable connection to the bumper antenna. I'll take it to my local garage this weekend and see what they say. Cheers for the advice!

No problem! Just happy to share my bit. Your Smax has a similar mileage to mine when the fob issues started cropping up. The transmission fluid change shouldn't have affected the keyfob, so it's a safe bet that the issue might indeed be with the bumper antenna connection. Just a heads-up, apart from the defective cable, also ask your mechanic to check the state of the antenna itself, as, in rare cases, that might need replacement too. In my case, just the cable swap was enough to sort things out. Glad I could help. Let's hope the garage visit helps you nail the culprit, and you can have your ride back the way it was. Fingers crossed. Keep us posted. Cheers!

Thanks for the words of wisdom! I will bring up the antenna issue with my local mechanic and hope for the best. I'll certainly keep everyone in the loop once I find out more when I visit the garage this weekend. Really appreciate all the advice and support. Cheers!
