Seeking Solutions for Faulty Heated Windows in 2012 Volvo S40 Diesel

Heated windows without function

Fault stored

Hey folks, I've run into a bit of a weird issue with my 2012 Volvo S40 Diesel. Suddenly, the heated windows aren't working and I've noticed there is a fault stored. I suspect it could be something to do with the windscreen heating acting up. Has anyone else had a similar problem? If so, how did you fix this? Did your workshop provide any insights that you could share? Really appreciate any tips or experiences you guys could share!

Hey, I had a similar situation with my 2010 Volvo V40 Diesel. I'm not a pro by any means, just a car guy with some experience under the hood. I realized my windscreen heater wasn't working properly and took it to my local workshop. They told me the windshield heating element was defective. Ended up paying around 585 Euro for the whole job. In your case, there could be the same issue or perhaps something slightly different. Could you provide more info, like are there any other systems acting up? Or is it just the heated windscreen? Also, what are the symptoms when you try to activate it? That could help to pinpoint the problem. Hope this helps, bud!

Hey, thanks a ton for your response. It’s good to know I'm not the only one dealing with this. It seems like it's just the heated windscreen that's acting up, no other systems are behaving abnormally. When I try to activate it, nothing happens, no buzzing or whirring like before or anything. FYI, I had my last service done recently at 72,022 KM, and all systems were okay then. I guess I'll have to get my trusty ol’ Volvo over to my mechanic this weekend. Here's hoping the repair cost isn't too steep! Wish me luck.

Hey, no worries, glad I could help shed some light on your issue. From what you say, it really sounds like your car's windscreen heating element might be the culprit, just like in my case. That 'nothing happens' symptom you've got there could be because your heating element isn't drawing any current. And the absence of any unusual sound also indicates towards the same. Even though it's a bit of a pain, I'd recommend getting it checked out as soon as possible to avoid getting yourself frozen in some unexpected weather. Don’t stress too much, though! Considering you’ve recently had your Volvo serviced, I’d presume other parts of your car are still in good shape. Fingers crossed it doesn't end up shaking your wallet too much. Good luck, and keep us posted on how you go!

You hit the nail on the head! Definitely sounds like it's the heating element from everything you've said. That'd explain why all other systems are behaving as they should. I'll take your advice and get my car checked out this weekend. You're right, it's better to get it fixed sooner rather than risk getting myself in a frosty situation! I'll surely keep you folks updated on how this goes. Till then, appreciate your help and fingers crossed for a friendly repair bill. Cheers!
