Seeking Solutions for Failed ABS/DSC System in 2016 Dacia Duster Possibly Caused by Old Transmission Fluid

ABS/DSC system is not working

Hey fellow gearheads, I'm dealing with a quirky issue on my 2016 Dacia Duster with a Gasoline engine. Out of the blue, my ABS/DSC system just stopped working. I'm suspicious that the transmission fluid might be past its prime. Anyone ever had a similar problem or knows any potential fixes? I'm especially curious about your workshop experiences and how you got it resolved. Any tips or previous encounters with this would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

Hey there! I'm no expert mechanic, but I do have some experience tinkering with cars. I faced a slightly similar issue with my 2014 Dacia Logan. The ABS/DSC system had a problem, which turned out to be due to worn out gear oil. Took it to my trusted local mechanic, who suggested changing the oil. It ended up costing me around 365€, but the problem was fixed. By the way, is your Duster manual or automatic? Gearbox type can sometimes make a difference. Hope this helps a bit!

Hey, thanks for the tip! My Duster is actually automatic. I've done around 21656 KM since my last service, so I guess changing the gearbox oil could be indeed a possible step. It's great to hear that you managed to solve your problem with a simple oil change. I mean, 365€ does sound a bit spicy, but, hey, if it works it works, right? I'll definitely discuss this with my mechanic. Cheers!

Hey! Good to hear back from you so quickly. Your mileage since the last service does suggest that it's about time for a gearbox oil change. Automatics are different beasts compared to manuals but the basic principle is the same; through time and continuous use, the gear oil breaks down, and it can't do its job as efficiently, which might affect the ABS/DSC system. I totally feel you on the cost though. Believe me, when my mechanic quoted the fee, my heart skipped a beat! But, in the long run, it saved me from more expensive damage and in line with being secure on the road. Anyhow, I think it's a good idea to consult your mechanic about the possibility of the worn-out transmission fluid. If it doesn't solve the problem, at least you can cross it off the list. Best of luck!

Hey, appreciate the detailed response! Yeah, the breakdown over time you mentioned makes complete sense. I guess it's better to be safe than sorry, especially when it comes to driving, huh? It could be a one-off, or it could be a sign of problems to come. But either way, an oil change seems like a sensible step now. Completely agree with your last point, best to start with the relatively simpler solutions. I'll definitely drop by my mechanic and discuss the possibilities you mentioned. Take care and keep helping like me. Cheers for the help!
