Seeking Solutions for Black Smoke, Poor Acceleration, and Reduced Fuel Efficiency in 2018 Seat Tarraco Gasoline

Poor fuel economy

Strong exhaust smell

Longer cold start time

Loss of engine power

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Check engine light on

Jerking on acceleration

Hey folks, I've been having a weird issue with my 2018 Seat Tarraco Gasoline. Lately, it's been pumping out black smoke on acceleration, the check engine light is constantly on, and it takes longer than usual to start cold. The engine's power has dropped off, there's this annoying jerk when I hit the gas, its fuel economy is down and the exhaust reeks more than is normal. I suspect that this could be due to a fault in the fuel pressure sensor, but I'm not sure. Have any of you experienced something similar? How did you figure it out, and more importantly, how did your workshop resolve it? Would appreciate any advice or suggestions you might have! Thanks in advance.

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2016 Seat Leon. A bit of background on my car knowledge, I'd say I have some experience, not a professional but I know my way around. To address your concern, like yours, my car was also struggling with start-up and had a decrease in power. I took it to my local workshop and after a thorough check, they figured out that the cable connections were defective. The repair set me back about 155.00 Euro. Having said that, each car can be different, it might be beneficial to get some more details about your vehicle. Could you please share some more information about your driving conditions or recent changes (if any) in maintenance or car parts? Trust me, don't delay taking your car to a trusted workshop, sometimes these issues can snowball and cause even more damage. Let them diagnose it fully. I hope this helps and you can hit the road without worries soon. Cheers!

Hey there, thanks for the advice! I appreciate your input. My Tarraco's recently clocked 131941KM. And the latest service was done a few months back, no parts were changed then. Driving conditions are mostly city commutes - stop and go traffic, but I ensure it gets a decent highway run every couple of weeks to keep it from getting clogged up. I'll definitely follow your advice and get her checked out ASAP. Cheers!

Hey! Good to hear back from you. The mileage you've mentioned suggests your Tarraco has been on quite a few journeys! And your driving conditions sound typical for city commuters like us. Your suspicion about the Fuel pressure sensor could be correct, and it might be contributing to your issues. But typically, misfires or rough idling are some other symptoms which you didn't mention. Now given all the symptoms you've described, I would suspect it might also be a problem with the oxygen sensor or the mass airflow sensor. These can cause an unhealthy mix of air and fuel ratio leading to many of your described issues. But, remember this is just educated guessing. The only definite way to identify the problem would be diagnostics. My advice is to get a diagnostic tool or take your car to a professional who has one. They'll be able to read any error codes stored on your car's computer which should point to the problem. I totally second your decision to get it checked ASAP. These things could potentially turn worse if not timely addressed. Let us know updates when you can. Safe driving!

That's some really valuable insight! I didn't consider the oxygen or airflow sensor. I'll make sure to mention this when I take my car to the garage. Guess you're right, it's educated guessing until diagnostics. I'm planning to take it tomorrow and yes will definitely keep you guys updated. Thanks again for such a well-explained answer. Safe driving to you too! Cheers!
