Seeking Solutions for AC issue with 2011 Diesel Volvo XC90: Suspected Interior Temperature Sensor Signal Error

A/C System Not Engaging

Insufficient Cooling/Heating

Air conditioning blows warm air

Hey folks, got a bit of an AC issue with my 2011 Diesel Volvo XC90. It's pushing out warm air, there's not much cooling or heating happening, and I can't seem to get the AC system to engage. I'm suspecting it might be something to do with an interior temperature sensor signal error. Has anyone else had this issue, and if so, how did your workshop handle the fix? Any insights or shared experiences would be much appreciated!

Hey, cool, got a similar issue on my 2009 Volvo S80, just a couple years older. I'd say I've got some experience with cars, not an expert but I've done a fair few jobs over the years. Turns out for me it was a sensor cable connection that was defective. My local workshop sorted me out for just 110 Euro, didn't break the bank thankfully! As to your beast, bear in mind that Volvo models can slightly differ, so best to get it checked professionally. Can you provide a bit more details about your AC issue though? Are there any unusual sounds or warnings popping up on the dash? That might help pin down what's going wrong.

Hey there, appreciate the response. Nice to hear that your issue got sorted without making your wallet cry! To answer your question: no unusual sounds or warning lights so far. The old girl's still purrin' like usual, just with warm breath. Just hit 136800 on the odometer, and last service was a month ago. I guess I'll have to ring up my mechanic and see what he says. Thanks for the insight!

No worries, happy to help! Good to hear there's no disturbing sounds or lights coming on. I reckon it may well be, like you said, a problem with the interior temperature sensor then, especially considering the car’s age and mileage. Perhaps there could also be an issue with the AC compressor. My Volvo had a similar mileage when the sensor cable issue kicked in. No notable signs on the dash, just the AC starting to act all wonky and throwing out warm air. It seemed to come and go at times too. Yeah, best bet I reckon is to give your mechanic a call and have it inspected. Hope it doesn't cost you an arm and a leg though, good luck with it! Remember to ask him about the compressor and the potential sensor error. You'll have to keep us posted!

Cheers! It's given me a bit of comfort knowing I'm not alone in this. I'll definitely throw these considerations at my mechanic and see what he has to say. Who knows, might just be a faulty sensor or, fingers crossed, not the compressor... that could hurt the pocket a bit! I'll keep you guys updated once I get some news, hopefully, nothing too pricey. Thanks again for your help!
