Stalling while idling

Hey fellow car enthusiasts, I've got a bit of a puzzler with my 2022 Renault Arkana hybrid. She's clocked about 92K kilometres, and lately, she's been acting up. Off the top, engine's randomly shutting off, losing power abruptly and the check engine light keeps coming on. She's also been jerking on acceleration, idling roughly and guzzling more fuel than usual. The exhaust's churning out black smoke and reeks, to boot. I'm thinking it could be the fuel sensor acting up. You guys got any similar experiences with these symptoms, and any luck fixing them at your mechanic's? Just wanna know what I'm in for after a not-so-great last visit. Cheers for any insights!

Hey, had the exact same issues with my 2019 Renault Megane RS not too long ago. Know exactly what you're going through. Turns out it was a defective wiring harness/plug on mine. Engine acting funny, idling roughly, guzzling more petrol than usual, all those symptoms you mentioned, it had 'em all. Stopped me dead on the road a few times too, really gets your heart rate going, I tell ya. It was a bit of a pickle to figure out, truth be told. Code reader pointed towards fuel system and I also thought it might be a faulty sensor at first. But my trusty mechanic was pretty thorough with it, did a few tests, checked the electronic control module and boom, it all tied back to a shoddy wiring harness. It was quite a serious issue cause the harness/plug thing controls most of the vital functions, including the fuel system. Had to leave my babe at the garage for a few days, they had to work on replacing the whole thing. Long story short, it wasn't something trivial or something I'd be able to sort on my own. Have a word with your mechanic about checking the wiring harness. It could save you a whole lot of headache moving forward. Best of luck!

Wow, appreciate the share. Sounded like quite the ordeal with your Megane. Never crossed my mind that it might be the wiring harness, definitely intriguing. I'll bring this possibility up with my mechanic. Thanks a heap. If you don't mind me asking, do you happen to remember what the damage to your wallet was for fixing this? Moreover, have you faced any related or other significant issues after repairing the wiring harness? Always good to know what potential follies I might be heading into. Cheers!

Hey there, no worries at all. Happy to share my experience if it helps you out with your Arkana. Regarding the price of repair, it didn't really break the bank as bad as I thought it would. The wiring harness/plug replacement set me back 95€. I was surprised that the cost was quite reasonable. And regarding your question about any other significant issues since that repair, the good news is no! My babe's been running as smooth as ever. In fact, after my mechanic fixed the dodge wiring harness, we haven't noticed anything similar happening again. Even the fuel sensor glitch got sorted. It seems now that it was mainly due to the defective wiring messing with the signals. So overall, it was a win-win, got my car running back at top-notch, and didn't empty my wallet completely. Just another day at the mechanic's, I guess. Cheers! Hope it goes as well for you too.

Brilliant! You've seriously put my mind at ease. A non-crippling repair cost and, most importantly, a trustworthy, lasting fix - feels like a silver lining. I'm now absolutely taking this wiring harness issue to my mechanic. And it's great hearing your babe's going smooth ever since. No more unexpected jitters or freakouts on road, eh? One can't ask for more. A massive thanks for your help and for sharing your experiences. I'll definitely post an update on how it pans out with my Arkana. Fingers crossed for not burning a hole in my pocket and getting it back snoozing on the roads. All the best! Here's to hoping for another regular day at the mechanic's. Cheers!
